Thanks to all my friends who tagged me to write this post about 5 Things You Don’t Know About Me, Michael Eagar. So here are some things that most people do not know :
- I was rescued by helicopter - kind of.
- I love to read.
- I am an engineer at heart and prefer a dark dungeon to work in.
- I like ice-cream but not chocolate.
- I collected sports cards.
Several years ago I was hiking Mt. Timpanogoes with a friend in the early spring. The pass connecting Sundance and American Fork Canyon was not yet open, and the back country was still covered in snow. A friend and I were hiking with snow-shoes, crampons, and ice picks to reach the summit and come down at night. Temperatures were warm enough that the snow never froze, so we could not travel down that night. As a result, family got concerned and brought in Utah County’s Search and Rescue which told us to stay put and took us off the mountain the next afternoon via helicopter.
I am crazy about history, philosophy, science, etc. I have never found a subject I did not enjoy. I guess that is why I have 170+ credit hours as an undergraduate. My wife is somewhat of a garage sale fanatic, and I tag along to find old books that pop up once in a while.
I enjoy making small gadgets as a hobby. My mother reminded me not long ago that when I was young I once made a simple switch for her that when she flipped the switch, it turned on a little light bulb. I gave it to her for a Mothers Day present with a tag like “you light up my life” or something corny. I think my projects have become more complex than that, and after my entrepreneurial gigs, I hope to spend more time on this hobby.
I really like ice-cream. When I served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, there was a time when I was eating a 5 qt jug of ice-cream each week. Things have greatly improved since then, but it is still on my favorite foods list. I dislike chocolate. Outside of “Milk Chocolate”, I think chocolate is worse than wax but tastes very similar.
I have a large sports card collection. It is somewhere between 35,000 and 45,000 cards. I cannot remember now. Mainly they are from the mid 80s to the mid 90s. My favorite baseball player at the time was Jose Canseco, and similar to my favorite boxer “Iron” Mike Tyson, neither met my expectations as good role models.
Now you can’t say that there are 5 Things You Don’t Know About Me, Michael Eagar. I tag Neal Harmon, Brock Blake, Blake Snow, Todd Wilson, and Amy Rhoads.
