I read a good article not long ago in the Jan 30 2006 edition of BusinessWeek on Sponsored Opinions. The idea is that opinion pieces in some popular newspapers are sponsored. In other words those writing opinions are paid to take a side (takes away from authenticity if your opinion changes with the money thrown at you).
Some “Paid” opinion writers have nationally syndicated columns. If opinions can be bought, then those with the most money are the ones that get published. Many businesses according to the article paid commissions to the opinion writers based on how much business they brought to them. This is normally called advertising, but those reading the articles were not aware of it which is why it raised concerns. I think it is a good practice to be straight with people when it comes to your intentions.
