Good article in BusinessWeek April 3, 2006 edition on Azure Venture Capital. Although they had a slow start and were hit hard on dot com burst, and have this advice for their current and future investments before making a deal:

1. Do your own primary research (up to 1 year)
2. Focus on early-stage deals
3. Put money in only if you can get 25% stake and a seat on the board

Note, they now only do about 4 - 6 deals a year instead of the 20 deals they did in their first year in 2000. Today, they have many promising deals looking at IPO.
