Great article in Fortune’s March 20 2006 issue about Personal Management Tips. It is easy to get caught up in technology and sometimes its hard to know how to maximize results without getting burned out. So to get the most done, consider these steps:

  1. Keep meetings rare - keep an agenda, start on time, turn off cells and BBs
  2. Show technology who’s boss - adjust pings for new email, add filters, etc.
  3. Give yourself a time-out - devote an hour every morning for uninterupted thinking and planning for the day, no calls, no emails, strategize about your work that day
  4. Say “NO” - Don’t overload yourself, focus on your objectives
  5. Delete - cut out those activities that don’t effect the long-term consequences of your job. Make a decision on every email as you read it (delete, answer, get back to you later, file away, etc.)
  6. These were some of the take-aways. If you want to read more about Personal Management Tips it is on pg. 93.
